Training and Support

Southern California Foster Family and Adoption Agency provides a comprehensive 24 hour pre-certification training program for all adults seeking to become foster and/or adoptive parents. Training is given alternately on  consecutive Thursday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and on consecutive Saturdays from 9:00 a.m to 4:00 p.m.

Following each pre-certification training series, a First Aid and CPR class is offered on site at a cost of $45 per person.

After certification, as a foster/adopt parent, 15 hours of continuing education are required each year in order to be re-certified. SCFFAA provides Family Enrichment Days at which time parents are provided with continuing education, and child care is offered.  It is through the education gained at these trainings, along with the friendships created with other parents, that foster and adoptive parents expand their insight and understanding for the care of their children.

In addition to opportunities to meet and talk with other parents, agency support includes one-on-one and family assistance from Foster Care Social Workers and Adoption Social Workers. A Foster Care Social Worker is assigned to each family and meets with them on a regular basis. The Adoption Social Worker conducts the home study and assists adoptive parents with building their families.
