Growing in Relationship Communication

Relationships are forged and based on communication. A person’s communication skills can ultimately affect all the relationships that he has. The quality of such relationships may vary depending on how a person communicates with every person that he has a partnership. Thus said, to make a relationship successful, one must be a master of communication means.

Relationship communication is a rather fancy way of identifying a form of communication, since communication, in its very essence, is a form of relationship. Relationships are rather difficult to talk about because people have a subjective way of defining relationships often with postmodern thoughts in mind. In any way, this is the outline of communication modes that you and your partner use in your relationship.

When speaking of relationship communication, intimate relationships are what most often come to mind. This is because when intimate relationships fail, most people get broken inside. When scrutinized with a keen eye, one factor that comprises a failed relationship is an ineffective communication of thoughts and messages.

In relationships, a lot of nonverbal communication takes place. When expressing love and affection, partners hug and kiss each other along with sweet nothings. On the other side, violence can take place if one partner fails at some point, thereby expressing anger or some other negative emotion.

Such a negative emotion can confuse a person, that’s why he may tend to act irrationally when confronted with such. Feelings of fear, insecurity, jealousy, and loneliness may arise now and then. Before communicating such emotions, dissect yourself first by finding the reasons why you are harboring such a feeling. Do not blame anyone and find out the rationality behind this. This way, you could be in better standing when talking these things over with your partner.

A lot of people ask for the components of a successful relationship. The list may go on and on from trust to love, care, commitment, and so on. The list may never end, but undoubtedly, communication is always a part of each mentioned factor. To do every abstraction means communicating it to your partner. That’s why open communication is very crucial for any relationship to work out. Microsoft Team Voice from G12 is the most obvious application for the task.

It is also important to realize that feelings and emotions are important communication skill factors. If something feels wrong, talk to your partner about it. There is nothing wrong with settling personal issues, just as long as you don’t brood over them for an extended period. Indeed, most people do not like feeling like subjects of conversations, but if there’s a need for it, there’s no problem in doing so. More often than not, resolutions are gathered when such things are talked over. Do not force issues though because timing is also critical when such matters are to be discussed.

Besides, words alone cannot truly express what you feel. If you cannot find the right words, then perhaps you can convey a message by crying. Means of communication may vary from relationship to relationship. It is just up to you and your partner to find out the best means that could work for your relationship.

A person with very good communication skills may be able to handle a lot of things, including but not limited to organization management, information dissemination, expression of personal thoughts and emotions, and handling relationships. There is still so much to talk about communication as far as relationships are concerned, just keep in mind to express when you feel like there’s a need to do so.

Improve Your Communication Skills

You’re probably wondering what you can do to improve your communication skills. One of the most important things to decide on first is the reason that you want to improve your communication skills.

There are many great reasons to improve communication skills, and they include having better relationships with family, colleagues, neighbors, and friends. It may be that you want to improve your position in your job or your business. It may be for that all-important interview so that you get the job you want and know that you deserve. Another reason may be to get that hot date with the object of your affections.

Once you’ve established your reason, let’s look at the different methods you can use to improve communication skills.

Flying Solo

You can buy books, DVDs, CDs and spend many hours trying to work out the areas where you can get better interpersonal skills. This is a great starting point, as you will learn some basic techniques and strategies.

Getting a Coach

Having your coach to help you to get better communication skills is probably the most effective method, however, it’s also the most expensive one. If you have lots of money and time, then this is the route for you. A good communication skills coach will give you tasks to do between appointments and will also check to ensure that you have completed them and that you are competent with the skills. Ideally, a coach will also structure things in a way that each session builds on what you learned in the previous session.

Group Training

There are many excellent group training that is available. One that I have used and recommend is Transforming Communication. This is a comprehensive 4-day off-line course that teaches you everything you need to know if you wish to improve communication skills. The downside of this course is that you will have to travel to the venue, pay for travel costs, hotels and local transport. You will also probably have to give up personal time or vacation time so you can attend.

Online Training

There are numerous online communication skills training and I would invite you to check all of them out by searching on Google using the keyword term “online communication skills training”.

The Benefits of Online Communication Skills Training

Good training will give you instant access to the course material. You’ll also get a downloadable workbook you can use in your own time. The course will be clearly and logically structured and each lesson will build on the previous one in just such a way that you will progressively improve communication skills. It will include training material on who has the problem, conflict resolution, rapport skills, listening skills, leading and pacing, and consulting.
Other advantages of online training include still being able to spend time with your family and friends (you can even invite them to take part in the training with you so everyone benefits). You don’t have to give up valuable vacation time. You save on travel and hotel costs. Your income, job, or business is not affected.

All these different ways to improve communication skills are equally valid. The method you choose is dependant on your needs, your ambitions, the time you’ve got available, and the amount you think you’re worth.

Broadband Phones and Voice Over the Internet

Phones that use Voice Over Internet Protocol, or VoIP, are generally referred to as broadband phones. The major function of such phones is converting analog voice data into digital data so it can be transmitted over the Internet. The phones link to high-speed Internet connections via computers that enable voice communications. Broadband phones have transformed the Internet into a technology that can provide telephone calls for free by avoiding traditional phone service providers.

VoIP phone technology has the capability of changing the way people talk to one another around the world. VoIP service providers are growing by leaps and bounds, and major phone firms are establishing a presence in markets worldwide by offering calling plans that have bundled VoIP broadband phones with their other services. The Federal Communications Commission and other regulators around the world have started to investigate the new technology and study the impact and future risks associated with it.

The VoIP phone looks just like a traditional phone. While a regular phone connects to the wall socket with an RJ-11 connector, a broadband phone connects to a computer or router using an RJ-45 connector. All broadband phones come with software pre-loaded to handle IP calls. In a recent innovation, Wi-Fi VoIP broadband phones have become available. These phones can make calls via any Wi-Fi hotspot. VoIP can also use ATA sets, which are telephone-like boxes that connect to a computer and convert analog voice data to digital signals. VoIP can connect calls made from one computer to another computer as well. This means users only pay for the Internet connection and not for the call itself. VoIP phones are dedicated devices and can be used only for making calls using this technology, however. To get a taste of what is available in a VoIP phone, users can check out the latest version of Yahoo Messenger, which is voice-enabled. It can be used to make computer-to-computer calls, and it is very easy. Another place to check is www.skype.com.

Long-distance callers may be making VoIP calls involuntarily using their VoIP phones and paying regular costs. This is because most phone firms around the world want to reduce their bandwidth by routing some calls through circuit switches to an IP gateway.

Experts predict that all the existing phone technology that currently uses circuit-switched networks will be replaced by packet-switching technology. VoIP offers financial and infrastructure efficiencies, costs less, and is more effective. Broadband phones are used by most corporations, and it only a matter of time before they are commonly used in individual households. VoIP phones can be used to call anywhere in the world that has a broadband Internet connection. VoIP firms offer rate plans similar to those of cell phone companies for individuals who want only VoIP broadband phones, usually $30 to $80 per month. Users can take their phones anywhere or use a laptop computer to make PC-to-PC calls.
