For being the mother of four children, Maria Lazo is surprisingly composed. A bright smile crosses her face as she talks about her hectic schedule. “With four young children it’s certainly busy. Before I had time to put makeup on at home, but now I do it in the car!”
Maria is no stranger to being in the company of children. For several years she worked in childcare at Bright Horizons on the Sony Pictures Lot in Culver City. It was on her job that she learned of Southern CA Foster Family & Adoption Agency from a coworker, who was an adoptive parent herself.
Maria and her husband Edward had been interested in adoption as a means of building their family for sometime. When they learned about the agency they became excited about the possibilities now open to them. Once certified, things moved quickly and the Lazos received a life changing telephone call approximately one month later.
“Receiving the telephone call from SCFFAA regarding our daughter Allyssa was just great.” Only three days old at the time, Maria had the opportunity to be wheeled out of the hospital with Allyssa in her arms.
Three weeks after bringing Allyssa home, the Lazo family moved to Palmdale. Shortly afterward Jacob, Nicole and Akemi joined the Lazo Family. “We have so much happiness in this house now, it’s completely alive,” Maria says of her children.
Despite her hectic schedule, Maria doesn’t even flinch at the thought of having another child join their family. “Children are such a blessing,” she says. “They’re amazing. I think everybody should adopt at least one child.”
